 MARIE ALI
quilts

February 7 - April 3, 2009
Artist's statement:

Though i have previously had two other shows here at Bucci's, one in pastels and the other in photographs, my oldest artistic medium is quilting. Perhaps that is because i was intimidated by fine arts and found less pressure in craft, but also because i love the warmth of functional art--quilts, pottery, weaving all of which i have done for certain times of my life. The one that grabbed me was quilting, especially when i allowed myself to really let go and allow it to take as long as the piece itself wants. Some of these quilts are still occasionally calling for another piece--i'm always open. I like what Gaudi said about art being alive as long as the artist keeps it alive. The other part of the life of this medium of quilts is that the person who uses them also adds to the patina with loving use--especially healing quilts and baby quilts. All but the octopus quilt are made for sleeping with rather than the wall. This is the first time i've seen them on the walls (which is really wonderful to see twelve years of work all together).

You will not see prices on these quilts because i rarely sell them. I love to teach quilting however, so i am leaving a guest book for comments and if you might be interested in quilt classes lease include your email address and/or phone number. I lead quilt classes for small numbers, 6-12 women and men, usually residential in gorgeous locations. These quilt classes also include composition and following your own vision and creative juice. To help find this creativity i use short meditation techniques.
