Artist's statement:
Ben Azarm's body of work portrays a landscape of abstraction that reflects a speculative account of the transient modulation of perception along the fault line of the Apollonian/Dionysian fields of reality.
The conceptual aspect of the DIPP series is associated with the artist's long term interest in the subjective exploration of altered perception in both directions, and with the presumption that, within each field, there exist certain latent imprints that can only be perceived in one state but not in the other.
DIPP series includes a selection of 9 images that represents the visual extension of the artist's primary experiments with shifted perception in the medium of sound, via de-filterizing the sense of hearing through a prolonged over exposure to saturated white noise. Under such a state, at a point when a new sonic experience was perceived, as a gesture of collection of an imprint of such moment, a snap shot of the incidence was metaphorically documented by taking a close-up picture of an arbitrary surface.
