Artist's statement:

I was born in Moscow, Russia in 1961. Graduated from the Moscow School of
Cinematography in 1987 with two Degrees: Masters in Fine Art and Masters in the
Arts of Animation. Directed a 10-minute animated movie, started to work in
Illustration and think of a painting as a career. The first painting dated 1989
was called "The Guest." It was created under the influence of my two favorite
artists: Andrei Tarkovskii ("Solyaris") and Peter Brugel The Elder ("Hunters on
the Snow"). And I think, that the mixture of reality and surreal, the
combination of 16th and 20 century visual palettes and textures of two different
media: cinematography and fine art - somehow gave me the bliss of a sensation of
creating a new world, my own. And I have been hooked up since.

I immigrated to The United States in 1991, residing in
Baltimore, Maryland for about 10 years and then moving to the Bay Area. I've
gone through many changes during 20 years of my career as an artist, and for
those who are curious here is the web site, where paintings are telling the
story of my life by themselves: www.zolotnitsky.com.
