Artist's statement:

I have been working as a photographer for over fifteen years. I have received numerous awards for my photography work including grants for a documentary project in Haiti and a Pennsylvania Council of the Arts Grant for Artists in Education. I received a B.F.A. in photography from Moore College of Art & Design, the only all women's art college in the world. I have photographed extensively both in the U.S. and abroad. Some of my time abroad was spent working as a photographer for a Haitian newspaper. I have several years experience teaching photography workshops and accredited classes at the University and Secondary school levels. I created Alternative Photographic Set Design for "Focus on Africa" using enlargements from glass lantern slides that depicted "National Geographic's" first contact with Liberia.

As an artist I use traditional silver photographic techniques, and processes that were invented in the early 1800's. I make light sensitive emulsion and apply it by hand. Each print is one of a kind. While a basic image can be duplicated, two prints can never be exactly the same. I often use Gum Dichromate because it combines photography, painting and printmaking, allowing me to create a photograph, an original print and a painting at the same time.

As a professional photographer, I document weddings, portraits and landscapes. I photograph with a fine art, documentary style. My goal is to produce portraits that evoke emotion and impart personality, capture the spirit and joy of a wedding day creatively, or photograph landscape with reverence and respect.

Recently I have been working with the East Bay Park District and "News from Native California" to photograph sites within the East Bay Park District. The focus of the project has been to photograph where the impression of the daily and sacred life of indigenous peoples, now displaced, is intact or visible. This has included photographing bedrock mortar, shellmounds, and cave drawings throughout the park district. With deep respect for the preservation of remembrance, and the power and beauty of the past, I am honored to conduct the project.
