Artist's statement:

Color and whimsy direct most of my work, whether watercolor, acrylic, photography, mixed medium pieces or furniture design. With a background in anthropology, I've come to understand the inspiration of my South Texas, borderland roots and find that this rich cultural layering influences most areas of my work and my life.

Vivid color seems an inescapable presence for those raised near the Tropic of Cancer. Over 30 years of travel and study of Mexico, concentrating on the people, their customs, arts, and the marvelous essence of everyday that is uniquely theirs, my head overflows with an endless wealth of scenes that seek to be shared.

Moving from heavily laid acrylic texture to the transparency of watercolor and back, presents not only an adventure to me, but a bit of schizophrenia in my efforts that says more about me personally than I may want to know. Yet I continue to grope my way through technique and style - discovering as I go. Always an adventure and more about the process than the product.

Artists Bio
Most of my life was spent in the lower Rio Grande Valley and Gulf coast of South Texas where I received my early training in oil, watercolor, photography and exhibit design. There, I designed art exhibits for the Art Museum of South Texas, Driscoll Children's Hospital, Corpus Christi Science Museum and exhibited broadly.

Since moving to California in 1990, I have enjoyed a wealth of studio classes with a variety of instructors at Richmond Art Center, San Francisco State and Irvine Center for the Arts. I have exhibited my photography, watercolor, mixed-media and acrylic, as well as a line of custom furniture known as La Loba Design, in Irvine, Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, San Francisco East Bay and San Francisco.
