 LISA JACOBS
monoprints

November 2 - December 13, 2002
Artist Statement:

My desire is to make visually curious intriguing pieces of art. I love the elements of pattern, texture, color and design. Furthermore, I am fascinated with the process of developing and using my own personal symbolic language. I try to pay attention to the musings of my subconscious self without over-analyzing and editing the material. The challenge is to make some sense of and creatively use the shapes and marks which I am drawn to.
"Dont think that just because I did it that I know more about it than you do. If it doesn't stay mysterious why bother?"
William T. Wiley, artist
A most exciting moment for me is when, after pulling the last run of a monotype print, I find that the piece has developed a presence and a power to speak on its own. Having a set interpretation is not important. I want to stir up emotions. I want the viewer to make up their own story. I want to stimulate the viewer's imagination, including my own.
