Artist Statement
In popular culture we are inundated with the image of the star. Through the medium of the 20th century, the screen, we have become familiar with the visage of the star. But what about the almost stars, those figures which are almost familiar, vaguely familiar, name on the tip of the tongue? What about the straight man, the other guy, the sidekick? Never quite reaching the heights of the star, not as recognized or recompensed, nevertheless the necessary other guy, or gal. With this thought we bring you a celebration of the other, the ones who without whom the star would not shine quite so bright, the focus would not be quite so clear.
These are images of those characters, some more familiar than others, and some in context which is not quite... what we remember.
