Harley Jensen is a Bay Area native who has spent much of his creative energy in architecture. A Cal-Berkeley graduate who studied under architect Charles Moore, he is the founding partner of Jensen/Ptaszynski Architects (www.jandparchitects.com), and has left his mark on sites all around the Bay Area, including The Sea Ranch.

Photography is Harley’s other passion. His architect’s eye is evident in his intense relationship with his art- a penchant for abstraction, tightly composed images and exquisite detail.

Harley Jensen is a colorist, both in his architecture and in his photography. In this series he explores the spaces between buildings of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, Mexico

Kristen Jensen's statement

Web: www.kristenjensenstudio.com

A Bay Area native, I enjoy exploring themes of community, diversity and the influences of our natural surroundings in my abstract landscapes and figurative works. My landscapes generally include structural or graphic elements along with more organic components, and all of my work tends toward warm and vibrant colors. My paintings are all created using archival quality papers or canvases. All paintings start with a pre-tinted, and often pre-textured surface. The paints I use are a combination of liquid acrylics made with exceptionally vibrant pigments and more traditional thick-bodied acrylics. The images are built up from an under-painting of liquid acrylic, with thicker paints added for depth and texture, and washes of the liquid acrylics to finish the painting. The finished paintings are then covered with a protective varnish coat. Many of the larger works are painted on wrapped, three-dimensional canvases. These paintings are almost sculptural in effect, as the images wrap around the sides and can be seen from all angles.
