ABOVE GROUND
The photographs in the series "Above Ground" document mounds of dirt, soil and sand that have been deposited in a man-made environment. This organic matter, like naturally formed landscapes, is subject to constant upheaval-from the slow erosion of rain and wind, to the immediate and mechanical transformation caused by tractors.
These landscapes, although found in urban environments, continue to evoke a deep visceral response. They create an illusion of pristine landscapes found in the mountains or desert. These mounds are a reminder of our primal relationship to dirt as the essence of where we came from and what we are made of
