Artist's statement:

My art work pioneers an off-the-wall path from the gallery to the luminous world of the garden. Focused on integrating life and art the garden is my chosen site for angling in on the potentials, igniting the seeds, for creating Paradise on earth.

I describe my gardens as paintings you can walk into. Once inside the "frame." the reality of the painting-garden experience opens along with the flowers offering intimate contact with nature, light, expansion of personal boundaries to resonate with the abstract existence of color, texture, shape and light.

Similarly, gardens inspire the creation of paintings returning on a garden path through the imagination in paint, gesture, brush strokes onto paper and canvas. Recently, shovels too have entered the paintings, both supporting and woven through canvases. Adding a dash of humor, an attitude of play to the art works.

Gardeners, along with goddesses are the main figures inhabiting my art works, some of these figures are highwiring it onto kite-like canvas and lath trellis constructions, joining my earlier trellis construction paintings made simultaneously within the garden constructions.

My work sets up a resonance and dialogue between gardens you can walk into And painted gardens of the imagination. Viewers are invited along pathways of the illuminated imagination into both of these realms.

My background includes running a full-scale landscape design and installation business, Keeyla Meadows Gardens & Art for over twenty-five years, a masters degree in sculpture from UC Berkeley, BFA from California Institute for the Arts, Whitney Museum of American Art special studies program. My work is shown by a New Leaf Gallery, I Wolk Gallery, and Claudia Chapline Gallery.
