| Artist's statement I first arrived in Oaxaca almost thirty years ago on a January morning after a sleepless all-night bus ride from Puebla. I walked from the bus station to the central plaza of the city, the Zócalo, in the cool pre-dawn air. I collapsed in a portal-covered outdoor restaurant and ordered a freshly squeezed orange juice. In the café I sipped my oj as the sun rose and warmed the day. I sat for the rest of the morning watching as the Zócalo came to life while I did too. In this small moment, I bonded with Oaxaca. I have been returning ever since. I hope these photos give a glimpse of why I am so attached to the place. |
