Artist Statement

In this series of paintings my personal memories, family members and touch stones are enlivened through contextual portraits and imagined settings both believable and ambiguous. These interpreted and constructed images may suggest the subject's aspirations or propose new possibilities.

My intent is to keep the work open to interpretation, so each viewer can explore it from his/her own references, discover meaning and follow their own 'Soul's Journey'.

Biography:
Always a visual kid, I struggled to 'see' what others could apparently see easily, wearing glasses since age two. I acquired particularly enduring visual memories during my childhood summer vacations with family in Ohio, New England and the National Parks of the West before moving during high school to the Bay Area. My first self identification as an artist came at summer camp where I explored 'arts and crafts' including pastel drawing to African folk songs (remember Missa Luba?), and I carved abstract sculptures à la Henry Moore. After college (B.A. Music, UCB), I studied and practiced architecture, further developing my drawing skills.

During the past five years, I've intensified my commitment to become more fluent in the language of painting.
