I believe as artists, it's our responsibility to make a visual commentary on the contemporary society in which we live. We should strive to make life better for people of all ages, races and genders. If you were to take a glimpse at the most powerful art form, you would be able to visualize what's happening in the environment around you, experience the passion of the artist and find inspiration in oneself to ignite your inner creativity.

My art work has become a journal of the challenges and gifts, which connect my inner self with the outer society. After listening to the sprit within me it's really not about just teaching art, but about the voice within artistically speaking and teaching in the spirit and creativity of my passion. Each time I paint a stroke on canvass, I let the spirit within me lead me into a stream of vibrant earth-toned colors. I feel a peacefulness that overcomes me, it excites me as the creative power of my brush brings to life that which I am experiencing within.

As a professional seamstress I have designed an array of garments and created many patterns. I have taught sewing and elementary art for over twenty years. I have tailored dresses using personal techniques with a plethora of fabrics. My passion for creativity along with my skills and life experiences are the forces that have motivated me. I want my work to reflect the pleasure I receive as I create it. My hope is that you to will derive the same pleasure, peacefulness and joy from "the leaves" and that the art of my creation will fill your spirit, as they do mine.

The power of my thoughts lies in my ability to realize my intention as a positive action in the real world. As an alternative method to traditional learning I have blended creative art with relaxation and meditation techniques. I find inner peace while interacting with students and people who have an insatiable desire for deeper expression and meaning for their life and the environment.

One day, I read in the Bible the passage from Ezekiel 47:12, which states: "On each bank on the stream all kinds of trees will grow to provide food. Their leaves will never wither and they will never stop bearing fruit. They will have fresh fruit every month because they are watered by the stream that flows from the temple. The trees will provide food and their leaves will be used for healing people."

This passage was very inspiring to me and it gave me a greater insight into the "parable of leaves." Leaves can be used for to heal people. This reminded me of a number of occasion(s) in my life that was drawing me nearer to my call to draw leaves. I believe this is partly because leaves are healing, and also because they are continually reproducing, which is nourishing, as well. Leaves are everywhere, all over the world. Every place we go there are leaves. If leaves could talk to each other, they would share stories concerning the mysteries and the seasons of life.

I have done intricate work with fabric for quilting as well as paintings on canvas. Typically, I employ symbols to reveal universal themes. I believe that our deepest feelings can be expressed with color. The colors also evoke parts of the world within and without. For example, yellow is the color of the sun (from where we stand, anyway). Green is the color of trees, leaves, and of the heart.

As you walk away, please take time to look back and share in my excitement as you notice the brilliant colors, shapes, sizes and the undeniable beauty of leaves.
