Artist Statement
A building--static, rigid, and stylistically cohesive--is energized by the often-conflicting designs of its neighboring edifices. The architecture is most dynamic when the sky is lit, but the light is too horizontal to penetrate the elevated plane of the city's rooftops. I chase the light around at these times of day, watching the city transform into film noir. There is an uneasy beauty in this urban landscape; its vibrant splendor is a quarrel between natural light and artificial structure. The streetlights are its intermediaries.
