Artist Statement
Bucci's hosts a show of (mostly) recent work by transplanted New York artist,
Claude Smith.

Smith credits music and certain musicians as inspiration for work like, "figure 8" (dedicated to the late Elliott Smith), "trace tones 1,2,3" (dedicated to composer Toro Takemitsu), and the lively, Miroesque pieces "SS3", SS4, and "Blues for Mr. Jordan" (dedicated to Sasha Smith and Willy Jordan).

Smith also offers up a piece from a series
titled "in the margins of the margins." Rounding out the show are a couple of more playful, if not mischievous paintings titled "shootout in Chinatown," and "spring fling."

Smith is a painter, printmaker, conceptual artist and musician who studied at
Pratt Institute in New York. He has been an artist in residence at KALA Institute in
Berkeley, and an a.i.r. with choreographer Maxine Heppner's project, "Across Oceans"...international collaborations in the arts. Bay area exhibitions include Sonoma Museum of Visual Art, MOCA (Santa Rosa), and the Weigand Gallery(University of Notre Dame d'Namur), in Belmont.

Claude Smith maintains a studio and lives in the margins of the margins in Graton, California. For inquiries and sales call (707) 829 6655 or claude13@sonic.net.
