Artist Statement:
As I have gotten older, I have become very aware of our cultures disdain for anything that's old - be it cars, buildings, or people. This is especially true for older women. Look at any magazine or newspaper. Advertisements for cosmetic surgery have become commonplace. Products that promise to ward off or eliminate signs of aging are advertised in all the media. The depiction of older women in magazines, television or the movies is rare. The message this sends to me is clear. This project is an attempt to counter the superficial depiction of women in the media and popular culture.
